Reconnection should be safe, voluntary and carefully supported.

Family reconciliation is an outreach pathway intended to help queer young adults rebuild family relationships where reconciliation is desired and does not compromise safety or dignity.

A supported process, not a forced return.

Family rejection can be a major driver of youth homelessness. Where a participant wants family engagement, the process can include preparation, mediated communication, boundary setting, safety planning and follow-up.

Safeguarding comes first. Reconciliation is not treated as successful simply because contact resumes. KENJAC staff should assess risk, consent and the young person’s own goals throughout the process.
