Commemorating International Pronouns Day 2025 at Kenneth and Jacob’s House

At Kenneth and Jacob’s House, we believe that every individual’s identity and dignity are honoured when their pronouns are respected. As we mark International Pronouns Day 2025, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a world where gender diverse and sexual minority youths are seen, affirmed, and celebrated for who they truly are.

What is International Pronouns Day?

International Pronouns Day is a global initiative to promote respect for people’s pronouns and to foster conversations that lead to inclusivity and understanding. It is a day to recognize the importance of pronouns in affirming identity and creating safe spaces free from discrimination and misgendering.

Why Pronouns Matter at Kenneth and Jacob’s House

Our organization was born out of a need to protect and uplift gender diverse and sexual minority youths in Kenya who face homelessness due to family rejection or societal prejudice. At Kenneth and Jacob’s House, we provide temporary shelter, psychosocial support, life skills training, and advocacy rooted in acceptance and respect for all identities.

Pronouns are a fundamental part of this respect. Using a person’s correct pronouns validates their identity, fosters trust, and promotes mental and emotional well-being. For many of the queer youths we serve, being acknowledged correctly is a vital step towards healing and self-expression.

Our Commitment to Inclusion and Affirmation

We strive for an inclusive environment where every youth 18 and older can feel safe and supported. Our team is made up of individuals who have themselves experienced the hardships of queer homelessness and understand the critical importance of respect, dignity, and care.

On this International Pronouns Day, we encourage our community and supporters to:

  • Share your pronouns openly and encourage others to do the same
  • Educate yourself and others about the diversity of gender identities and expressions
  • Advocate for respectful language in all spaces, especially those serving marginalized communities

Join Us in Celebrating Identity and Respect

Together, we can build a society that embraces every gender diverse and sexual minority young person with respect and compassion. Kenneth and Jacob’s House thanks all our supporters, allies, and youth for being part of this journey toward inclusion and human rights.

Let’s honor the power of pronouns not just today, but every day.
