We stand with our siblings in the LGBTIQ+ community in Uganda, who are facing a harsh new reality following the passing of sweeping antigay legislation by the country’s parliament. This legislation proposes tough new penalties for same-sex relationships and criminalizes anyone identifying as LGBTQ, threatening the basic human rights and dignity of the community in Uganda.
We want to make it clear that love is not a crime, and that everyone deserves to live their life free from discrimination and persecution. We condemn this legislation in the strongest possible terms and call on the Ugandan government to respect the rights of all its citizens, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
We know that change is possible, and that it takes the voices of many to create a more just and inclusive world. That’s why we stand in solidarity with the LGBTIQ+ community in Uganda and will continue to advocate for their rights until they are fully recognized and protected.
